From the Ridiculous to the Sublime?

The Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon is by far my favorite book(s) of all time. It was recommended to me by an acquaintance some 12 years ago, and I have read and re-read it almost that many times. This is a task greater than you might think, as the series to date includes 7 books, each ranging from 700 to 1000+ pages. The next book is due to be released in early 2013 and I can't wait!!
I cannot easily assign a genre to this collection of tomes, but here is a selection, all of which apply: historical fiction, romance, time travel, medicine, witchcraft, murder, geneaolgy, physics, warfare, herbology, homosexuality... you see what I mean? To quote the author, "Pick it up, open it anywhere, and read three pages. If you can put it down again, I’ll pay you a dollar. I’ve never lost any money on that bet." I also highly recommend listening to the audio versions, but only the unabridged versions narrated by Davina Porter. I found then in my local library. Don't say I didn't warn you...I have been known to stay in the car in my driveway to hear the end of a chapter! |
